We got a perfect score!
The article, written by Ben Everard and titled “Can you learn chip design in an evening?”, put Tiny Tapeout through its paces from an in-person workshop at Bristol Hackspace led by Matt Venn, all the way to receiving the finished board over a year later.
The reviewer used the Wokwi graphical tool to build an LED flasher design, submitted it through GitHub, and received it back mounted on a demo board with a clock source, LEDs for output, switches for project select and input, and mounting for a Raspberry Pi Pico.
On the board alongside their design were 165 other projects, including ten different CPU designs, all selectable via the flip switches.
The verdict: 10/10. “Learn how microchips work by designing one.”
From the review:
Our design was barely more than a ‘hello world’ of chip design, but it was ours and it got made, and that’s special.
Thanks to Efabless and all our supporters for making this possible. Read the full review in HackSpace Magazine issue #77.
