Wire-bonding, custom chips, and 80 very engaged people.
Tiny Tapeout Team
•29 August 2026
About 80 people showed up to OSHCamp in Hebden Bridge this past weekend. Stuart and Kris from the Tiny Tapeout team gave two talks.

Stuart walked through the practicalities of getting bare die connected to PCBs using chip-on-board (COB) wire bonding. Getting custom silicon back from the foundry is amazing, but a piece of silicon won’t do much without connectivity.
He talked about the real-world realities of assembly and the details that matter when you turn up to a factory with an artisanal batch of assorted chips instead of an automated, high-volume run.

Kris then showed what it actually looks like to design and manufacture your own custom chip! He walked through the who, what, how and why of the process, using two of his own designs as examples.
He also dove into the tools that make it possible the stuff that turns an idea into silicon you can hold in your hand!
We want to give a huge thanks to everyone who came by! But more importantly, thank you to the OSHCamp team and the OSHUG community for hosting!
Till the next one!
