What past attendees say
Everything nicely explained, interactive & interesting.
Workshop attendee
The interactive way, good balance between lecture and hands-on.
Workshop attendee
I came here with zero knowledge and was successful on the first run. Pretty neat.
Workshop attendee, Hackaday Supercon
Well organized and easy to follow even for a high school student. It was a great opportunity to learn how to build your own chip.
Workshop attendee, University of Toronto
I really liked how hands-on it was — actually building something and seeing it work made it way more engaging than just theory.
Workshop attendee, University of Toronto
Incredible how accessible chip design has become.

FAQ
Will I receive a physical chip?
It depends on your ticket tier. With Tier 1, your design is manufactured on a real chip but you don't receive it physically — we can test your design remotely and share the results. With Tier 2, you receive a physical copy of your chip, delivered on the Tiny Tapeout demoboard. Chips take approximately 7 months to return after tapeout.
How long will I have to work on my design?
You'll submit a simple design during Session 2 of the workshop, but you'll have until 10pm CEST on 7th September to finalise your design. At that point the design goes to manufacture at Skywater and can no longer be changed.
Do I need any chip design experience?
No. The workshop is designed for complete beginners. All tools are web-based and guided step by step.
What do I actually make?
You design a simple digital circuit and submit it for manufacture on a real chip using the Tiny Tapeout shuttle service.
What tools will I use?
SiliWiz (to understand how semiconductors work), Wokwi (to design your circuit), and the Tiny Tapeout flow to generate your GDS files and submit.
What if I know Verilog?
Between sessions, you're welcome to take your design further using Verilog if you prefer.
What do I need to bring?
A laptop with a modern browser, a free GitHub account, and a Discord account. That's it.
Is the workshop just for engineers?
Not at all. Past workshops have welcomed high school students, university students, hobbyists, and industry professionals. If you're curious, you belong here.
